Art: The Future Of Voices Magazine

Jul 11, 2007 by Alkatraz

Welcome to the new face of Voices Magazine. Our magazine has grown more than 100% in every division and streamlining our website was one of those things that needed to be done. So here we are in the art section of the newly designed website. Here we will be featuring different types of artists from around the world. We are accepting submissions from painters, tattoo artists, wood and metal artist, multimedia artist and every other type of artist that you can imagine.

Please send us a shout if you would like to be featured in the magazine. We have some very simple guidelines to follow and we are excited to see work from around the world.

"....painters, tattoo artists, wood and metal artist, multimedia artist and every other type of artist that you can imagine."

I had a chance to fly out to Houston a couple of weeks ago and I met up with Inkaholik from Texas Body Art. He threw down some ink on my arm and watching this guy work was pretty amazing. I have a lot of respect for tattoo artist and for tattoo collectors alike. It takes a lot discipline to tat somebody up for 6 or more hours and then for the person getting the tattoo it takes patience and an ability to ignore pain.

But anyone out there who is any kind of artist will understand when I say that art and pain do go hand in hand. Not just in tattooing but all types of art. Art is an expression but also relieves and gives off pain from times to to time. Some people use art to mask pain or expel it from their very being. Voices Magazine is art and the design of the magazine takes on a life of it's own. I have spent many sleepless nights trying to get something right or perfect that feature for someone. I take pride in my work and I'm serious about making this magazine the strong vehicle that it has to be. Send us you art......let us show it to the world. Remember art is never finished but just abandoned.

Culture

Jul 11, 2007 by Alkatraz

Culture is one of those things that is always up in the air. Culture is such a subjective word, it almost shouldn't exist. I have seen the world from very different eyes. I was never brought up to be racist and although I see typical stereotypes all the time, for me is all more of comedy than anything close to hatred.

Recently talking on the phone to a lead singer of a band from another country I realized how much I love to learn and be a part of other cultures. Traveling is one of the best ways to see other cultures and really understand what a particular sect of people is going through. But there are people out there who just don't want to learn any of that. It baffles me. I was raised by an African American man and a German/Irish/Cheyenne woman. I have a brother who is half black and a brother ( by way of marriage) who is half Mexican. I grew up being able to pass as a white kid, a mexican kid and have even been called Mediterranean or Armenian.

I have been with people who have said, "Nigger" in some stupid joke or other slang term. I have watched them carry on until later in the conversation I will mention my brother and then their faces turn a color red that I cannot describe. They are embarrassed and feel dumb......and they should. Strangely I have seen mexicans and spanish people use the "N" word more than most other types of races. It makes you wonder who is really on who's side. It's scary because you end up realizing that most people have some kind of twisted notion that we are all so different. But are we?

I think not. We all cry the same, bleed the same, laugh the same, and reproduce the same. Many have been divided by forces who want us to divide. If you are one of those people....you need to wake up. We are not to fight each other, but should be gathered to fight against an even greater evil. Voices Magazine is dedicated to take on these issues as they arise and will tackle the issues that stand before us now. I know what I believe and although I cannot and do not want to forcefully change a persons views, maybe I can shed light on a subject they are in the dark about.

I encourage you readers to send us letters about racism and other such topics relating towards culture as we intend on making some real noise about these issues. It's important for people to change their negative views and to be led by people who have their best interest at hand.

Politics

Jul 11, 2007 by Alkatraz

Bush is Satan

Politics. What can I say about this subject that will not make you smash your computer with your own head? I know politics for most are boring and confusing and just so entangled with webs of lies and bullshit that it's no wonder why the youth doesn't rally or vote like they should

People have had hatred for politics since the begining of time. I find it personally irritating when I hear these words like bi-partisan, neo-conservative, republican, democrat, liberal, independent and so on. These words mean nothing anymore. These words cannot describe party members correctly. The comedian Chris Rock said it best when he said, "Any person who makes up their mind on a particular issue without first reading all the facts is a moron." It's true people in government have spent so much time trying to divide everything, they have missed what's really important.

People loose their life because of politics, not just troops but civilians too. People careers get destroyed because of agendas and leaks of information. Our government is so out of whack that the "machine" is now running off the tracks by itself. I intend on changing that.

Although a tedious task, I want to help educate the sheep out there who are led to believe that they are free and that they are in control. I want to show them what they cannot see, what they have been blinded from. Voices Magazine will be aggressively talking about microchips being put into animals and humans, insurance companies and other large corporations controlling healthcare and the environment to make a buck with total disregard for life. I want to expose what people think is only science fiction to be the truth. Things have been this way for so long, and people always say, "But what can I do, I am only one person." I sympathize with that person but only for 2 seconds, because then I remember that we have been losing little freedoms for years and peoples attitudes have let it slip into an area where if it is not stopped dead in it's tracks, we will all be scanning our wrist at the store to by groceries.

Be a part of these debates as we have them and see where I'm coming from. There is evidence of these things all around you if you look. So look here and then you will see signs all over the place. It's time to dump some tea if you know what I mean.

Yo this is Alkatraz! Check out the show above cuz I'm in it! Toy Soldiers

JME Pool is one of those artist that you really wonder where her inspiration comes from. Her art is exacting in the way that it invites you. It has a warming creepiness seeping through all the pores of each canvas. There is a silence in her art that seems loud. But call it what you will her art is amazing. Divine lines of simplicity and color give birth to a design that is thought provoking and chilling. She uses oils and pastels to showcase a strange but true world where the isolation of childhood is expressed.

" It has a warming creepiness seeping through all the pores of each canvas."

We are featuring JME Pool's work in our next issue (Sept/Oct) and have posted some art here for you to enjoy.Iif you have a chance check out all of her work at dollydidit.com
